If you come down to BICC soon… just follow the sound of laughter and you might bump into our Early Years’ pupils and staff having a teddy bears’ picnic, a pirate party, or going on a "Treasure hunt".
The Pre-Prep: Early Years department is situated in the heart of BICC, and is housed in a beautifully light and bright architecturally-designed facility. The building itself and its well-tended environment creates the best possible safe and secure space for boys and girls from 3 to 5 years of age to explore every avenue of learning.
For the 102 pupils (51 in the Nursery year and 51 in Reception) BICC soon becomes their second home… where the welcome is warm, delicious lunches and snacks are home cooked, walls of classrooms and corridors are awash with paintings and pictures, and smiles are routine.
Our enthused teaching staff and an excellent pupil/teacher ratio ensure a wonderfully inclusive ethos within which every boy and girl
feels secure and grows physically, socially and emotionally.
The Early Years curriculum, with a strong emphasis on phonic and number awareness, is enhanced and strengthened through a wonderful specialist teaching in PE, Drama and Music. The boys and girls learn to control their body movements through dance and physical exercise, both on the field and in our hall. They love their introduction to music-making through singing and percussion, and our mini-plays, assemblies and nativities are a constant source of great drama! The teaching of every new skill is hands-on and practical, promoting playfulness and stimulating natural curiosity. Our pupils learn by doing and by playing.
They love asking questions, finding out, exploring, and learning. Our Early Years is a very happy place and for many boys and girls and their families the EYFS programme sows the beginnings of a very close relationship with the school, one which grow throughout their time at BICC.
